What is Offered at Ventura County Community College
Ventura College offers American Sign Language (ASL) courses through the Modern Languages Department.
• Students learn receptive and expressive vocabulary, grammar, facial expressions, body posture, and the cultural aspects of the Deaf community.
• The program emphasizes that ASL is a natural language with its own grammar, not simply a manual version of English.
• Courses also introduce Deaf culture, identity, and the role of sign language in communication and community.

• 4 units (about 70 hours of lecture)
