History of the Deaflympics
起源（1924年）
デフリンピックは、1924 年にフランス・パリで開催された「国際サイレント競技⼤会（International Silent Games）」に始まります。
• 創設者は、フランスのろう者スポーツ指導者 ウジェーヌ・リューベンス＝アルカイス（Eugene Rubens-Alcais） と、ベルギーの アントワーヌ・ドレス（Antoine Dresse）。
• 第1回⼤会には 9か国148名の選⼿ が参加しました。
• これは、障がい者のための国際的なスポーツ⼤会として世界初のものでした。パラリンピックよりも早く誕⽣しています。
発展期（1920〜1930年代）
• デフリンピックはオリンピックと同様、4年ごとに開催されました。
• 参加国はヨーロッパを中⼼に急速に増加しました。
• 成功を受け、1924 年には運営機関である 国際ろう者スポーツ委員会（ICSD）（当時は CISS: Comit. International des Sports Silencieux）が設⽴されました。
第⼆次世界⼤戦後
• 戦争により中断された⼤会は、1949年のデンマーク・コペンハーゲン⼤会から再開。
• アメリカや⽇本など、⾮ヨーロッパ諸国も参加するようになりました。
• ⼥性選⼿の出場種⽬も徐々に拡⼤しました。
「デフリンピック」への名称変更
• 2001年、ICSDは⼤会名を正式に 「デフリンピック（Deaflympics）」 に変更。
• オリンピック運動との連携を強調し、「聴覚障がい者によるオリンピック」という理念を明確にしました。
冬季デフリンピック
• 第1回 冬季デフリンピック は 1949年、オーストリア・ゼーフェルト で開催。
• 競技はアルペンスキー、クロスカントリースキー、アイスホッケーなど。
• 現在は夏季⼤会と同様、4年ごとに開催されています。
現代のデフリンピック
• 現在では 100か国以上 から数千⼈の選⼿が参加しています。
• 競技はオリンピックと同様の基準で⾏われますが、⼿話や視覚信号 が使われ、⾳による合図はありません。
• ⼤会は 国際オリンピック委員会（IOC） に正式に認められています。

Origins (1924)
The Deaflympics began in Paris, France, in 1924 as the “International Silent Games.”
• Founded by Eugene Rubens-Alcais, a French deaf sports leader, and Antoine Dresse from Belgium.
• The first games gathered 148 athletes from 9 European nations.
• This was the first international sports event for people with disabilities well before
the Paralympics.
Early Growth (1920s‒1930s)
• The games were held every four years, just like the Olympics.
• Participation expanded rapidly across Europe.
• The eventʼs success led to the creation of the International Committee of Sports for
the Deaf (ICSD) in 1924, originally named CISS (Comit. International des Sports Silencieux).
Post‒World War II Era
• The games resumed in 1949 in Copenhagen after being suspended during World War II.
• Non-European countries began joining, including the United States and Japan.
• Women athletes started competing in more events.
Becoming “Deaflympics”
• The name “Deaflympics” was officially adopted in 2001 by the ICSD.
• The name change aligned the event more closely with the Olympic Movement,
emphasizing athletic excellence and global unity.
Winter Deaflympics
• The first Winter Deaflympics were held in Seefeld, Austria, in 1949.
• Sports included alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and ice hockey.
• They are now held every four years as well, alternating with the Summer Games.
Modern Era
• The Deaflympics now welcome over 100 countries and thousands of athletes.
• Events follow Olympic-style standards, with communication conducted through sign
language and visual signals (no starting guns or auditory cues).
• The games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

意義と特徴
• ⽇本で夏季デフリンピックが開催されるのは初めて。
• 1924年の第1回パリ⼤会からちょうど100周年を迎える記念⼤会。
• ⼤会のテーマは「共⽣・バリアフリー・テクノロジー」。
聴覚障害者のために最新の⽀援技術や国際⼿話を導⼊。
なお、補聴器や⼈⼯内⽿の使⽤は競技中は禁⽌されている。

ボランティア・市⺠参加
• 約3,000⼈のボランティアが募集されている。
• 活動期間は2025年11⽉10⽇〜28⽇を予定（⼤会前後を含む）。
• 受付、案内、⼿話通訳サポート、交通・会場案内などの活動が中⼼。

• Opening Ceremony: Saturday, November 15, 2025, held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, 4:30pm to ~7:00pm.
• Closing Ceremony: Wednesday, November 26, 2025, same venue, ~4:30pm to ~6:00pm.
• The venues for competitions include Komazawa Olympic Park General Sports Ground, the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, and other selected locations around
Significance & Accessibility
• This is the first time Japan will host the Summer Deaflympics.
• It coincides with the 100th anniversary of the First Deaflympics, originally held in Paris in 1924.
• Tokyo 2025 is placing emphasis on accessibility: assistive technologies, barrier-free infrastructure, and use of international sign language. Hearing aids or cochlear implants are not permitted during competition.
Volunteering & Public Participation
• Approximately 3,000 volunteers will be recruited.
• Volunteer activities run from roughly November 10 to November 28, 2025, covering before, during, and after the Games.
